Title: Sky in the Deep
Author: Adrienne Young
Dates Read: Jan. 25 - Jan. 31
Format: eBook
Rating: ★★★1/2
Description: Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book but ultimately wanted more from it - like another 100 pages spread out across the book. Young throws you right into the action from the first page which is a bit jarring. I think she could have used a little introduction or something to give the first battle some context. And then she could have done more to develop the relationships throughout the story. And then finally I think she needed to give the final battle more time at the end. The entire book is leading up to this massive joint effort that gets taken care of in what feels like 10 pages. I liked the concept of this story and really liked Eelyn as a strong character, but I wanted more!
Final Note: There is a second book, The Girl the Sea Gave Back, which I will definitely read because I want to know more.
