Title: The Four Winds

Author: Kristin Hannah

Dates Read: Jan. 12 - Feb. 4

Format: Audiobook

Rating: ★★★★★

Description: Texas, 1934. Millions are out of work and a drought has broken the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. One of the darkest periods of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance.

Review: This book was absolutely amazing. Nearly flawless. Hannah did such an amazing time describing the settings - you could almost feel like you were in the dusty fields of Texas and the flooded camps in California. The story is told from the perspectives of Elsa and her daughter Leonora and they both have such clear and distinctive voices. Their lives are incredibly hard but they never give up. This is at its essence a mother-daughter love story which spoke to me. I literally don't have enough good things to say about this book. It was astounding. I didn't think Hannah could do better than The Great Alone, but she did.

.

Final Note: This is an absolute must read for fiction and historical fiction readers. It is so good.
